If you’ve recently bought your first ever motorhome, congratulations!
Buying your first motorhome can be incredibly exciting time, so it is important to do things your own way.
However, as experts when it comes to providing specialist motorhome repairs, we have compiled a list of a few top tips that you might find useful as you get to know your new motorhome.
We have many years of experience in the motorhome business, so if you’re heading out on a trip soon, take a look at these tips ahead of your exciting journey.
- Spend a night in your motorhome before you leave home
If you are completely new to motorhoming, it will be beneficial to spend a night in your motorhome before you set off on your exciting trip, to help you navigate appliances and controls.
Modern motorhomes can be very high-tech, and sometimes a little complex, so being able to spend a good amount of time figuring out how to use certain parts without the need to refer to instructions will allow you to enjoy your first trip with ease.
You might also find you need to rearrange certain pieces of furniture or equipment to enjoy maximum comfort.
All of this can be done in the comfort of your driveway, allowing you to truly get to know your new motorhome.
- Check your heating controls
During your test-run night spent on your driveway, be sure to test the heating controls. Set it to a level you feel comfortable with, and make sure you know how to alter it should you need to whilst you’re away.
Ensure to set off on your journey with a full gas bottle. The last thing you want is to run out in the middle of the night.
- Make sure you have the correct motorhome insurance
It is important to have the correct level of motorhome insurance that will cover you should you find yourself in the unfortunate situation of an accident.
At DMR Motorhome Body Repairs, we offer motorhome and caravan no-fault accident insurance. We will deal with the other party’s insurance company for you and arrange costs directly with them, taking some of the stress from your shoulders if you do have an accident.
We also provide motorhome body repairs, so if you do have a bump, you know who to call.
- Refuel when you can
Campsites can be located in very remote places, making them lovely and peaceful, but not ideal if you’re running low on fuel.
Whenever you see a refuelling point, don’t take the risk. If you think you could do with a top-up, make full use of the facilities whilst you can.
- Pack light, and use low power gadgets
Be mindful of weight when you are packing, and only pack the essentials. Some great ideas for swaps are lightweight plastic dining equipment, and microfibre towels. These take up much less room and are a lot lighter than their heavier alternatives.
If you are taking gadgets with you, try and find yourselves some low-power alternatives. Regular household appliances will use a lot of energy and may trip out the campsite’s hook-up protector.
As some campsites’ hook-up bollards are shared, you may not receive the full power allowance. Make sure you know where the mains consumer unit is on your motorhome.
