A motorhome is a huge investment and one that needs to be cared for if it’s going to last. One part of the motorhome that’s often neglected is the exterior. Sure, you clean it when it becomes a little dirty, but you’re going to have to do more than that if you want it to last.

So, to help ensure that you’re caring for your motorhome here are our top tips.

Cover it up

Exposure to the elements often causes signs of wear and tear on the exterior of your motorhome. The first sign is often fading paint – which, if you’ve spent a lot of money on your motohome, isn’t something you want. To prevent this it’s best to keep your vehicle sheltered from the elements when not in use.

Give it a wash

If you want to extend the life of your motorhome you should ensure that you wash it frequently using water and mild soap. Try and wash it soon after you’ve returned from a trip Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners as these may damage the exterior.

Black streaks

Fibreglass and metal finishes require routine maintenance to keep black streaks at bay. The longer they’re left on the sidewall finish the harder it’ll become to clean – so regularly clean that area. Use a commercial black streak remover to clean that area – and follow the instructions carefully.

Check for water damage

Water damage is often hard to spot at a glance. The outside of your motorhome may look fine, but if it left for prolonged period of time water damage can start to rot the roof, floor, or wall. Check all sealants carefully and keep an eye out for cracks, gaps, or loose sealants. Inside the motorhome check that there are no wrinkles in the wall panels or wallpaper, and feel for any soft spots. These are often a sign of water damage.
